Many archery coaches know little about anti-doping rules
1 study · 71 archers measured
The summary today
The question has been asked only once, in 2020, of all seventy-one coaches and assistant coaches in the archery clubs of the Jakarta region. On a Guttman-scale questionnaire, 28 of them (39.43%) fall below a pass, 40 (56.34%) reach a pass and only 3 (4.23%) reach a good level. The mean score is 19.59, with a standard deviation of 4.36, across three bands covering scores from 12 to 32: rather than a general blank, the picture is of a majority stuck halfway, with few reaching the top. The limits are just as clear. It is one sample, in one Indonesian region; the three bands are intervals built on the sample's own scores, not thresholds set in advance; the paper reports no validation of the questionnaire, and the journal is regional. We do not know whether the picture holds for Europe or for Italy.

In practice
It is taken for granted that coaches know the anti-doping rules and can tell an archer what they may and may not take: the information almost always comes through the coach, even though responsibility under the rules stays with the athlete.
