Claim page revised, version 3

The only data come from a 2012 Japanese engineering study, published in two versions with the same figures. A device on the bow stores the angle of the bow arm from the horizontal, which moves arrows up or down, and its left-right direction on shots that hit the centre, and signals with a light or a sound when the archer comes back within a tolerance, for example one degree; the rotation of the bow around the arrow, the one a bubble level corrects, is measured but not used for the cue. With the cue switched on the mean distance between the three arrows of an end falls from 17.3 to 10.7 cm at 30 m with the light and from 11.9 to 5.3 cm at 18 m with the sound, over 12 ends of three arrows per condition; the variation from end to end also shrinks, with the standard deviation going from 5.2 to 1.7 cm and from 3.6 to 1.3 cm. In the more detailed version there is a single archer, a high school student with one year of practice, in the other the number is not stated, and neither runs a statistical test or has a control group. The arrows with the cue, moreover, were shot with the cue switched on: the study shows that the aid works while it is there, not that it teaches anyone to keep the bow upright once it is removed. There is evidence in favour, but it is very limited.
